Learn Real Shop Skills by Building Real Things

A hands-on learning system for people who want to learn how to make things, but don’t know where to start.

You don’t need a fully equipped workshop or years of experience to start building.

Fabricator’s Field Guide is developing a series of guided projects that teach practical shop skills through hands-on work.

You’ll learn to measure, mark, cut, shape, fit, assemble, and finish real projects, while gradually building the skills and confidence to tackle your own work.

Start with one project. Build the skills to make many more.

The first guided project is a simple cedar box designed specifically for beginners.

The project includes prepared materials, essential tools, step-by-step instructions, and additional video guidance for the parts that are easier to learn by watching.

You don’t have to be a woodworker already. You just need to be willing to make something.

This isn’t a woodworking course.

It’s a progression of skills taught through projects.

Future projects will introduce new techniques and materials, gradually moving from basic hand skills into more advanced woodworking, metalworking, fabrication, electronics, and design.

The goal isn’t to teach you how to build one particular thing.

The goal is to give you the skills and confidence to eventually build things of your own.

The first project is currently in development.

We’re refining the project, instructions, tools, and materials now.

No commitment. Just follow along as we build it.
